SJIB launches new Professionally Qualified Person ECS card

The Scottish Joint Industry Board (SJIB) is continuing its rollout of Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) cards with another new addition to its online portal.

The Professionally Qualified Person (PQP) card is designed for operatives and managers who work in specialised electrotechnical disciplines but don’t carry out installation work and whose roles within the electrical industry aren’t already covered by a core ECS card.

The PQP card recognises the card holder’s professional status through their registration with an electrotechnical professional institution such as The Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), with applicants able to access a list of relevant professional bodies.

To be eligible, applicants must be able to provide evidence of their membership of such an institution and must also have completed the ECS Health, Safety and Environmental Assessment within the last 30 months, or hold a valid approved exemption.

The new card follows the successful rollout of the SJIB’s ECS Card portal in May, which means cards can be applied for, renewed and upgraded online in the following specialist areas:

  • Electrotechnical – Electrician, Approved Electrician, Technician Electrician, Electrical Labourer, Operative, Maintenance Electrician, Electrical Fitter, Approved Electrical Fitter, Electrical Fitter (ECITB), Approved Electrical Fitter (ECITB), Electrical Winder, Approved Electrical Winder, Instrument Mechanic, Wireman, Panel Builder
  • ECS Related Discipline – Field Engineer, Equipment Installer, Aerial and Satellite Engineer, Control Systems Engineer, Professionally Qualified Person (PQP)
  • Management – ECS Site Support, Academically Qualified Person (AQP), ECS Manager including Electrical Site Manager, Electrical Contract Manager, Manager, Project Manager and Contract Manager.

Using the portal is quick and easy, with applicants guided through a simple step-by-step process, which includes uploading certificates and paying the relevant fee. Applications can be made via a computer, laptop, tablet or mobile phone.
To find out more and apply, visit the portal at bit.ly/ECS-portal, click on ‘ECS Related Discipline’ > ‘PQP’ and complete the initial online application.
