Views sought on EV charging installation amendment to 18th Edition

Members are being invited to contribute their thoughts to a new draft for public comment (DPC) about Amendment 1 to BS 7671:2018 Requirements for Electrical Installations.

The DPC contains proposals to amend Section 722 of the 18th Edition, Electric Vehicle Charging Installations, following advances in technology for this key area of electrical work.

After opening on 1 October, the DPC is available for comments until 30 November via BSI’s Standards Development Portal.

Once this 60-day DPC period has closed, all comments will be reviewed by JPEL/64, the decision-making committee for the BS 7671 Wiring Regulations. The final version of Amendment 1 will then be agreed before it is published early in 2020, with the finished document available from both the IET and BSI websites as a free-to-view document.

SELECT’s Head of Technical Services, Dave Forrester, said: “We will obviously be reviewing the technical aspects of the DPC on behalf of Members and contributing to this process as appropriate, and will inform Members on the progress of the amendment.

“Any Members who also want to view the DPC and comment, either individually or on behalf of their company, can do so. Alternatively, if you wish to submit comments through SELECT please email them to the team at technicalhelp@select.org.uk.”

Clarification on the above process is also available from SELECT’s Technical Services team on 0131 445 5577.
