Hosie Electrical celebrates new-look fleet and 40 years with SELECT
An Aberdeenshire business marked two landmark achievements this week – launching its first electric vehicle (EV) and clocking up 40 years with SELECT.
Hosie Electrical, which is based in Inverurie, near Aberdeen, took to social media to celebrate becoming a Member of the association on 25 November 1981.
Richard Blundell, Managing Director, said: “We’re proud to have been a Member of SELECT for 40 years. The association is great for technical support and practical answers from practical people and it’s always a pleasure to speak to staff who genuinely want to help.
“We also regularly take part in SELECT training, which has been of huge use, particularly with the development of new technology. We’ve found that we’re installing an increasing number of EV charge points and photovoltaic (PV) panels, and are starting to look at battery storage.”
As well as celebrating the past, the company recently demonstrated its commitment to the future by introducing the first EV to its fleet of company vehicles.
The Renault Zoe has been decorated with new livery featuring nearby landmarks including Inverurie town hall and loco works, the Harlaw Monument and Bennachie Hill, along with the slogan ‘Think, choose, support local’.
Richard said: “The new livery reinforces our pride in having close ties to the community. We’re now looking forward to delivering local services for the people of Inverurie and beyond for another 60 years – with SELECT by our side of course!”
Established in 1961 as Manson Hosie, the company has provided services locally for more than half a century, ranging from domestic and commercial installations and electric heating to heat and smoke alarms, EICR and PAT testing and emergency lighting.
Employing a team of 25 people, more than half of Hosie’s electricians have over 10 years’ service, with some working at the firm for up to 40 years. It also currently has five apprentices in its ranks.
Richard joined the company in 2010 and became a director in 2014 before taking over as managing director when owner Brian Hosie retired in 2019.
He said: “We are proud to have a number of long-serving staff as they are the people that make the company and help us maintain our reputation for the highest standards.
“We like to encourage talent and develop skills, so we take on an apprentice every year. A lot stay on once their training is complete, which is always great to see.
“This excellent team spirit helped us through the early days of the pandemic last year as we worked hard and got through it together without losing a single person.”
