SELECT sponsored the Committee MSP of the Year award at the 2017 Herald Scottish Politician of the Year ceremony held recently at Prestonfield House Hotel, Edinburgh. The accolade was won by veteran MSP Alex Neil, the SNP member for Airdrie and Shotts.
SELECT president Kevin Griffin said: “SELECT recognises and supports the important role that parliamentary committees play in conducting inquiries, scrutinising legislation and holding the government to account.
“Alex met and exceeded what is required of a good committee member. They are inquisitive, they enjoy examining the details of proposed legislation and they support democracy by also holding the law makers to account.
“SELECT takes an active interest in the affairs of Parliament, not just in pursuit of the interests of its own members but with a view to promoting a highly-skilled and efficiently functioning economy.”
