Training

What BS 7671:2008 (IEE Wiring Regulations 17th Edition) Course do I need to do?

This depends on the reason for the training.  If it is to keep up-to-date with Grade card Requirements please refer to www.sjib.org.uk for further information

If it is for general up-skilling, either 208, 209 or 218 are suitable.  Read the synopsis and see what one would be of most interest in your current role.

What funding is available for courses?

All our open courses receive grant funding from the Electrical Engineering Training Foundation.  This is a charitable organisation that has been set up to help provide training within the Electrical Industry.  The grant from the EETF is currently set at 25% and is paid retrospectively.   Additional funding may be available from other sources.

Do you accept Individual Learning Account (ILA) Funding for courses?

No.  We are not registered to accept ILA funding.

How do I apply for Electrical Engineering Training Foundation (EETF) funding?

No application is needed.   At the moment anyone who attends one of our open courses automatically receives a grant for 25% of the course member cost.   This grant is paid twice a year.    The grant is paid by the EETF.  This is a charitable organisation that has been set up to help provide support for training within the Electrical Industry.

How do I pay for courses?

We require non-member companies of SELECT to pay up-front for courses.   Payment can be made online by credit or debit card.  Alternatively a registration form can be posted in with a cheque.  Please be aware that we will not confirm course dates until payment had been received.

Member Companies can be invoiced for courses.  Invoices are raised three weeks before the course date.  Please contact the Training Section directly to arrange for any bookings to be invoiced

How can I book a training Course?

There is an online booking system available on the website.  We can also post an application pack & course prospectus.  Alternatively if you  phone the Training Section we will take the booking over the phone.   Please be aware that as we require non-members of SELECT to pay upfront for courses you will be required to make payment with a valid debit/credit card at the time of booking.

We will confirm all bookings.

I work for a member, what rate do I have to pay?

If an individual works for a member they are entitled to pay member rates.  To book on-line and pay member rates you will need to register as an employee of SELECT and log in as a member. You will need to supply the SELECT membership number to register and may have to ask your employer for this number.  You can register here.

How are courses assessed?

The assessment process for the courses varies for different courses.  For the majority of our courses assessment is done by a multiple choice at the end of the course.    During the Inspection & Testing Course & the SQA tailored award there is also a practical test.  For the Tailored Award & the Periodic Inspection case assessment is done via a case study.

Candidates are allowed to use the course notes when answering the questions for most of these courses.  The exception is the ECS course.  For further details on the process please refer to the sjib website on www.sjib.org.uk

When do I get the results of the courses?

We aim to process the results within three weeks of the course date.  We will send certificates or a fail letter to the contact we have for each booking.

What happens if I fail a course?

We will send a letter detailing a course of action.  In most cases it is simply a matter of arranging to resit the multiple choice paper or under-take an exercise again.  If necessary we will advise that candidates re-attend a course.
