Probationary Scheme
What is it and who should join?
SELECT operates a probationary scheme for those electrotechnical companies that are not yet able to meet the full membership criteria.
The scheme is mainly for companies just setting up but can also apply to companies who, at the present time, do not have a suitably qualified electrician.
What are the benefits of being a scheme member?:
- Obtain telephone advice and guidance from professional staff on all aspects of running an electrical contracting business.
- Receive monthly mailings sent to members covering relevant legal, technical, contractual, health & safety and training matters.
- Receive our monthly CableTalk magazine
- Use our BS7671 17th Edition Inspection & Testing sheets which clearly show you are in the probationer scheme
- Purchase non-member stationery (without the SELECT logo)
- Price concessions for SELECT training courses
- Access to the membership information pages of the SELECT website
How much and how long?
Registration to the scheme is initially for twelve months at a fixed fee of £200 plus VAT. Participation in the scheme can be extended for a further year upon payment of the fixed fee of £200 plus VAT again. However, scheme participation will be reviewed at the end of the first year.
Participation in the probationer scheme can be for no longer than two years.
Probationer scheme participants who apply for full membership within the period of their registration may be entitled to a part-refund of the fixed fee upon successfully becoming a full SELECT member.
Probationer scheme companies shall NOT:
- Be considered as a full member of SELECT
- Purport to be a member of SELECT
- Use or display the SELECT logo
- Be able to purchase SELECT branded stationery or publications
- Be able to become registered as an Approved Body/Approved Certifier of Construction under the Scottish Building Standards : Electrical Installations to BS7671 Certification Scheme
